James E. Cummings

James Cummings concentrates his practice in all areas of aviation litigation and general commercial litigation, including insurance disputes, subrogation matters, and civil rights cases.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cummings served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Special Litigation Bureau of the Illinois Attorney General's Office, where he investigated, prosecuted, and defended the most complex and challenging cases in the Attorney General's Office, including fraud on the state and its consumers as well as public policy matters. In law school, Mr. Cummings was a Senior Editor on the International Law Review and was a fellow on the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Team, which competed in Vienna, Austria, against law schools from around the world. He graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and then participated in Notre Dame's Alliance for Catholic Education, during which he taught middle school in Birmingham, Alabama, while earning his Master’s in Education. After completing the program, Mr. Cummings taught high school English in Chicago for six years. He now regularly appears as a Guest Lecturer in Loyola University Chicago School of Law’s Evidence course. He and his wife live in Chicago with their two children.
